Professional Services Engagement Practicum

Overview of the Professional Services Engagement Practicum that is offered as part of the Penn State Smeal MBA program.

The Professional Services Engagement Practicum is an elective course that provides the opportunity for student teams to address business challenges provided by client firms that range from small, family-owned businesses to multinational corporations.

Recent projects include:

  • Evaluating Market Segments with Siemens Industry, Inc.: Students evaluated market sub-segments within the food and beverage industry based on their attractiveness as a market for energy and environmental management services. Students then developed a market strategy for the segment that Siemens deemed most attractive. 
  • Cutting Waste with Mondelez International, Inc.: Students worked with the North American multinational confectionery, food, and beverage conglomerate to provide strategic and tactical recommendations to reduce manufacturing waste, improve environmental sustainability, and produce cost savings.
  • Sustainability in Sourcing with International Paper: Students conducted a benchmarking study to identify best practices relative to supply chain sustainability and developed recommendations for broadening International Paper's sustainability practices across its global supply chain.
