Penn State Smeal MBA First Year

The first year of the Penn State Smeal MBA Program is divided into four modules of seven weeks each. A list of first-year courses and descriptions is available.

Orientation

The first year begins with an intensive two-week program designed to help you prepare for your future in the program.

Fall: Week 1 - Concentration Week

Each day of the first class week is a faculty-led seminar with content highlights of each primary concentration. This kick starts concentration selection and career search, and it prepares students for fast-approaching career fairs.

Leadership Communications: 
A signature aspect of the Penn State Smeal MBA experience—BA 517: Communication Skills for Leaders—spans the entire first year of the program. The course provides students with the tools to clearly, forcefully, and professionally represent themselves and their ideas in a business context.
